November 29 & December 3 10:00am - 11:30am CDT

CEU’s: 0.3

Learn about the most common digital protocols used by modern instrumentation and how to utilize the additional information available from these devices to improve operations and maintenance. From asset information to remote compliance and predictive maintenance, this online learning course explains how to get the most out of your existing devices. Beyond a single process measurement, what information and insights do smart instruments provide? Most instruments purchased in the last 10 years have some sort of digital communications and sophisticated diagnostics – even if the output used is a simple analog 4-20 mA signal. First session — an overview of the most common digital communications landscape:

  1. How instruments talk to the control system (digital protocols)
  2. What process and diagnostic information is available
  3. What types of accessories or additional hardware are available to help make use of the information available from instrumentation

Second session — learn how to leverage information available from existing devices:

  1. Remote monitoring of the process and devices (simple to complex)
  2. Real-time condition-based maintenance relying on predictive diagnosis (locally or remotely)
  3. Real safety benefits that can be achieved based on the above two topics
